The Australian Outback Bread

This bread is one of the favorites in my family. When the questions comes up what we wanna eat on the weekends my sister always says “Let’s make the Australian bread”. The name fits perfectly.  When you are in the outbacks of Australia and you want to make bread you need a recipe without any kind of fancy ingredients. Thats when this recipe comes in handy – it only consists of flour, milk, baking powder and tiny bit of sugar and oil and salt. See? It’s really easy to make and sooooo yummy. Perfect for a chelled-out weekend morning. You just need to get up ( I know, that always the hardest part, right!), make the dough and you can go straight back to bed (yay!) and cuddle under your covers until the wonderful smell of the bread takes in the whole house and you need to go downstairs to finally get a bite on it… But be quick! First comes, first serves and the bread will be gone faster then your eyes can see…

Australian Outback Bread

( one loaf, about 10 thick pieces)

Ingredients

500 g flour, 1 package baking powder, 1 tsp salt, 2 tsp sugar, 300 ml milk, 2 tbsp neutral oil ( e. g. rape oil)

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, salt and sugar then add milk and oil. Knead everything to a smooth dough. Let it set in a warm place (about 30 °C) for about 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven ( 175 °C). Put a baking paper onto a baking sheet. Knead the dough again, form a round shaped loaf and put onto the baking sheet. With a sharp knife cut rhombic shapes into the surface of the dough. Bake in the hot oven for about 45 minutes.

  1. Liebe Johanna, das Brot schmeckt superlecker. Einfach nur mit Butter bestrichen – ein Genuss 🙂
